Laser Hair Removal FAQs- Peoria, AZ

At Pure Vanity Spa in Peoria, AZ, education is an essential part of your treatment experience. We take time to explain how hair growth cycles function, why proper spacing between sessions matters, and how to care for your skin before and after each appointment.

Our assessment-first approach ensures that treatment settings, timing, and expectations are tailored to your skin type, hair color, and comfort level. This allows for a safer, more predictable process built around consistency and long-term results.

We also understand that previous experiences with older laser technologies may influence how you feel about starting again. Our goal is to provide a calm, professional environment where you feel informed, supported, and confident throughout your treatment series.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you are considering  for the first time, we encourage you to review the information below before your appointment. While the science behind laser treatment may seem technical, understanding how it works helps you make informed decisions. At Pure Vanity Spa, education is part of your overall experience.

For those looking to reduce unwanted hair comfortably, we offer advanced laser treatment that enhances safety and comfort. Our center uses Soprano ICE Diode Laser technology, operated by trained and certified professionals.

If you are exploring this treatment, you may have heard the term “virtually painless.” Earlier hair removal methods, including creams, electrolysis, and older laser systems, often involved discomfort and inconsistent results.

Soprano ICE represents an advancement in laser technology, delivering safe, effective, and long-lasting hair reduction with improved comfort. To reduce hair growth, controlled heat must reach the hair follicle. The follicle, located within the dermal layer of the skin, is responsible for producing hair. Heat must pass safely through the epidermis to reach and turn off that follicle.

Earlier technologies delivered a single, high-energy pulse to each targeted area. The handpiece was repeatedly lifted and repositioned, often causing discomfort due to the intensity of each pulse. Many patients described the sensation as sharp or snapping.

Soprano ICE  uses a different method. Instead of a single high-energy burst, it delivers lower-energy pulses at a rapid rate while the handpiece remains in continuous motion. This gradually builds heat within the treatment area, targeting actively growing follicles while improving comfort.

The result is a more consistent and controlled experience.

Once a follicle is effectively disabled, it can no longer produce hair, leading to long-term hair loss in the treated areas.

Hair grows in cycles, and laser treatment is most effective when follicles are in the active growth phase, known as the anagen phase. Because not all follicles are in this phase at the same time, multiple sessions are required to achieve optimal reduction.

On average, most individuals require approximately six treatments to achieve a significant reduction, often in the range of 80-90%. By spacing treatments appropriately, we can target follicles as they enter the active phase. Remaining growth is typically finer and less dense and may be maintained with periodic touch-up sessions.

Hormonal changes can also influence hair growth. Adjustments in birth control, hormone therapy, or menopause may stimulate new growth in certain areas. Understanding these variables helps establish realistic expectations.

If you are considering treatment, it is important to disclose all medications during consultation.

  • Accutane (Isotretinoin): You must be off Accutane for at least 12 months before beginning laser hair removal due to increased photosensitivity and risk of skin injury.
  • Certain antibiotics: Some antibiotics increase light sensitivity. Treatment must be postponed until approximately 7–10 days after completing the medication.
  • Pregnancy: Individuals who are pregnant or planning pregnancy are not candidates for this treatment due to hormonal fluctuations and safety considerations.

Your safety remains the priority, and treatment will only proceed when appropriate.

This treatment targets pigment within the hair shaft. Darker hair contains more pigment, which absorbs laser energy more efficiently and transfers heat to the follicle effectively.

  • Individuals with darker hair and lighter skin often respond most efficiently.

  • Lighter hair contains less pigment and may require additional sessions.

  • Darker skin types may require adjusted settings to ensure safety and effectiveness.

  • Gray hair does not respond to laser treatment because it lacks pigment.

Treatment intervals are typically spaced 4–8 weeks apart, depending on the area treated and individual hair growth patterns.

You may shave between treatments. However, waxing, plucking, or tweezing is not permitted during your series. Laser energy travels down the hair shaft to reach the follicle. When hair is removed from the root through waxing or tweezing, the pathway for heat transfer is eliminated, making the treatment ineffective.

Please shave the treatment area the day before your appointment. This allows the provider to identify hair growth patterns while ensuring safe energy delivery. If you have additional questions, your laser technician will review them with you during your visit.
